MobisleNotes FAQ
Here we describe the most commonly asked questions about MobisleNotes for Android, and their answers.
Q:
The widget doesn’t show or disappeared when i rebooted the device.
A:
When having the app installed on the SD-card can cause this problem. Try moving the app back to the phone storage witch should solve this problem.
Q:
There is one thing that worries me a lot: In the description in the app market it says the app can read “your personal information” and it can “read sensitive log data”. Can you please explain what kind of data this is?! And why does a note app need to know my location?!
A:
“Read sensitive log data” and “read your personal information” means that when a crash occurs we ask the user if we may submit a crash report to us so we can track down the error. “Need to know my location” Is not a GPS-position, but a location that we use to determine which language we will translate the app to.
Q:
I am trying to backup my notes from an old phone but the app keeps crashing when i try this or I get a blank screen when i’m trying to preview the backup. Why is that?
A:
Unfortunately there is a bug in the Android OS that is caused by certain SD-cards. Android mistakenly assumes that the database is corrupt. Older versions of Android responds to this by crashing, while never versions instead deletes all data and gives the app an empty database. Currently there are no efficient way to import the notes into MobisleNotes. However it is still possible to recover the notes to your computer if they are important. Also we are currently working on a workaround to this problem, and with the next release this issue will be solved.
One way to retrieve your notes is if you connect your phone to your computer you can mount the sd-card, so it can be accessed from the computer. Your backups are in the folder “MobisleNotes”. If you want you can mail the database to us, and we will extract them for you and send them back. This would be done automatically and no one would read your notes.
To manually extract your notes you will need a database-manager. If you are using firefox as your browser, one of the simplest way is to use an add-on called “SQLite Manager”. This program will be able to open the database-file. After you have installed the add-on, in firefox click “Tools” and choose “SQLite Manager”. First open the database. Your notes can be extracted like this: In the menu to the left, select the backup file. Click “Tables”, then “notes” and choose “Export”. Here you can configure the settings of the export, but just click “ok” to export your notes as a csv-file. Some redundant data will also be in the file, but your notes should be fully readable.
Update 120117: There is no solution in sight for this problem and as we are introducing a free web-sync in the upcoming version we are phasing out the automatic backup within a few versions. Anyone that have experienced this problem will be rewarded with 1 year premium subscription of the new service. More on this when we have launched the new version.
Update 111201: This bug only occurs on HTC phones and we have ongoing support from HTC to solve it. If you experiencing this issue on an other manufacturer, please let us know.
Q:
I have lost my password for my locked notes. Is there a way to reset it or find out what it is?
A:
The best solution is to reinstall the app. This should clear the master password and grant you access to all your notes. Although take extra caution and make a manual backup (or sync the notes) to prevent anything from beening lost.
Q:
When I open Mobisle Notes Pro, it closes immediately and i get a message saying “Licensing failed”. Why is that?
A:
Sometimes the market can be a bit slow with authenticating purchases on new apps or new phones, but it usually works within a few hours.
Q:
Is it possible to transfer notes from the Lite to the Pro version?
A:
When you start the paid version the first time it asks if you want to import the backup. Press the green button “Notes Lite backups” Then select the automatic backup in the list. You can also do this by going into the app, press the menu button and then settings. Under settings press “restore backups”.
Q:
I have bought a new phone and would like to transfer my notes from the old to the new one. How do i do that?
A:
If you have the Pro version you can use the online-sync to upload your notes to the web from your old one and then download them to your new. If you have the free version you will have to move the SD-card from the old phone to the new one. In case the two phones does not share the same SD-card format you would have to use a more primitive alternativ and mail the notes to your self and paste them in to the new one.
